A Week in the Botswana Wilderness

OVERVIEW

The Okavango Delta is a unique pulsing wetland covering 15 000 square kilometres of Kalahari Desert in northern Botswana. The Okavango Delta is known for its superb wildlife, with large populations of mammals and excellent birding. To the north of the delta is the 320,000-acre Selinda Reserve, an area linking the Okavango Delta and the Chobe/Savute corridors. This weeklong trip takes you deep into the wilderness of both these untouched regions of Botswana.

DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1 • Johannesburg to Vumbura Plains Camp, via Maun
Upon arrival in Johannesburg, you will transfer yourself to the departures terminal in time for the departure of your flight to Maun in Botswana. Upon arrival in Maun, you will be met and assisted onto your short flight to Vumbura Plains, located in the northern part of the famous Okavango Swamps. You will have three nights to enjoy this luxurious lodge and its environs. Overnight at Vumbura Plains .
Days 2 and 3 • Explore the Okavango Delta from Vumbura Plains Camp
You will have two full days to explore the area around the camp. Vumbura Plains Camp encompasses such a wide variety of habitats and species, that guest can see just about every animal that occurs in the Okavango Delta biome. Overnight on both nights at Vumbura Plains .
Day 4 • Transfer from Vumbura Plains Camp to Zarafa Camp
After breakfast, you will be transferred from Vumbura Plains Camp to the local airstrip. You will take a short flight in a small plane to Zarafa Camp, located in the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to the lodge, where you will spend the next three nights. Overnight on both nights at Zarafa Camp .
Days 5 and 6 • Explore the Linyanti Reserve from Zarafa Camp
You will have two days to explore the Linyanti area, with Zarafa Camp as your base. The Linyanti Wildlife Reserve has abundant wildlife in a wide variety of species but is most noted for its very large elephant population which can reach enormous densities during the dry winter months. Other game is abundant, such as impala, lechwe, kudu, zebra, giraffe, buffalo and bushbuck, and their predators: lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog and spotted hyena. Overnight on both nights at Zarafa Camp .
Day 7 • Zarafa Camp to Johannesburg
Today you will be transferred to the Zarafa Camp’s airstrip for the short flight to Maun. Upon arrival, you will transfer yourself onto the flight to Johannesburg. Upon arrival in Johannesburg, you will take your flight home.
