A Journey through the Southern African Wilderness

OVERVIEW

Wildspace has sought out the finest lodges set in some of the most exciting game reserves and remote wilderness areas of South Africa, Botswana and Namibia and designed an itinerary to include them all. From the pristine wilderness of the Okavango Delta in Botswana, through one of the wonders of the natural world, Victoria Falls, to the wild Lowveld area of South Africa and the deserts of Namibia, this trip is the definitive wilderness experience of this region.

DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1 • Arrival in South Africa
Upon arrival in Johannesburg airport, you will make your own way to the hotel, located literally across the road from the Arrivals Hall. Overnight at the Intercontinental Hotel .
Day 2 • Transfer to the Timbavati Private Game Reserve
After breakfast, you will walk across to the Domestic Departures Hall in time to check in for South African Express flight to for Hoedspruit. Upon arrival at Hoedspruit airport, you will be met and transferred to Timbavati Game Reserve. You will settle into the lodge before your afternoon tea is served. At around 16h00 you will be taken onto your first safari around the reserve, returning after dark. Dinner and overnight at Simbavati River Lodge .
Days 3 and 4 • Explore Timbavati Private Game Reserve
You will have two full days to enjoy Timbavati Game Reserve. The typical day starts with an early wake-up call before sunrise. Tea, coffee and rusks are enjoyed together before heading out at first light. While seeing big game is always exhilarating, there are many other smaller species that are also captivating, and birding enthusiasts will be delighted at the approximately 350 species of birds recorded on the reserve. After the morning drive, there is time to relax before lunch. At around 15h30, everyone gathers for a decadent high tea, before heading out with your ranger and tracker for the afternoon game drive through the reserve. En route, you will stop for sundowners and a chance to stretch your legs as you watch the sun set over the distant peaks of the Drakensberg Mountains. After the sun has set, you will be transferred back to the lodge for dinner. Overnight on both nights at Simbavati River Lodge .
Day 5 • Fly to Cape Town
Today after an early morning game drive you will return to the lodge for breakfast. After breakfast you will be transferred to Hoedspruit airport in time for your flight to Cape Town. Upon arrival in Cape Town airport, you will be met by a driver who will transfer you to your hotel, located in the heart of the V&A Waterfront, a few minutes’ walk from all the major attractions in the Waterfront. Overnight for four nights at The Victoria & Alfred Hotel .
Days 6, 7 and 8 • Explore Cape Town
You will have three full days in Cape Town, during which time you will go on the following tours. On each day you will have the services of your driver / guide while on tour (after each tour you will be dropped back at the hotel). Overnight on all nights at The Victoria & Alfred Hotel .
Day 9 • In Cape Town
You will have one full day at leisure to explore Cape Town at your own pace and to perhaps do some shopping in the local markets. You will have the access to your guide and vehicle between 09h00 and 18h00. Overnight again at The Victoria & Alfred Hotel .
Day 10 • Fly to Livingstone
Today you will be transferred to Cape Town airport in time to check in for your flight to Johannesburg. Upon arrival in Johannesburg airport, you will change planes and fly onward to Livingstone. Upon arrival at Livingstone airport, you will be met by a representative and transferred to The Royal Livingstone Hotel. After settling in at the hotel, you will have the remainder of the day at leisure. Overnight at The Royal Livingstone Hotel .
Day 11 • Tour of Victoria Falls
In the morning you will be taken on a short private guided tour of the Zambian side of Victoria Falls. You will have the afternoon free to relax in the environs of the hotel and in the evening, you will be taken on a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River. Overnight again at The Royal Livingstone Hotel .
Day 12 • Transfer to Kasane
Today you will be transferred overland to a small town named Kasane. Upon arrival in Kasane you will check in at the Chobe Game Lodge. Overnight at Chobe Game Lodge . Approximate driving time: 2 hours (including border formalities).
Day 13 • Explore Chobe National Park
Today you will go on two guided game drives into the Chobe National Park, the first in the morning and the second during the afternoon. The famous Chobe River, which forms the park’s northern boundary, provides a permanent source of water for the region’s high volume of wildlife, making the river an important focal point for safari enthusiasts. Enjoy the diversity of Chobe National Park’s abundant wildlife while on a boat safari, while witnessing the herds of game and prolific birdlife along the river banks. Overnight again at Chobe Game Lodge .
Day 14 • Fly to Machaba Camp
Today you will be transferred to the Kasane airport in time for your flight to Machaba Camp in the Khwai area of the north eastern Okavango. Upon arrival at the airstrip, you will be met and transferred to Machaba Camp, where you will check in for the next three nights. Overnight at Machaba Camp in a Luxury Tent.
Days 15 and 16 • At Machaba Camp
You will have a two full days day to enjoy the numerous activities on offer at the camp, including morning and evening game drives, year-round water activities, with dugout canoes (mokoro) water level dependent, guided walks, or simply relaxing around the camp and enjoying a massage from the spa therapist. Overnight on both nights at Machaba Camp .
Day 17 • Flight to Windhoek
After the morning’s game activities, you will be transferred to the local airstrip in time for your flight to Maun. Upon arrival at Maun airport, you will board your flight to Johannesburg. Upon arrival in Johannesburg airport, you will transfer across to the departures terminal in time to connect you’re your flight to Windhoek. Upon arrival in Windhoek, you will be met by a representative and transferred to the Belvedere Boutique Hotel .
Day 18 • Flight to Sossusvlei
Today you will be transferred to Eros airport in time to check in for your shared chartered flight to Sossusvlei. Upon arrival at Sossusvlei airstrip you will be transferred to Hoodia Desert Lodge. In the late afternoon, you will be taken on a sundowner. Dinner and overnight at Hoodia Desert Lodge .
Day 19 • In Sossusvlei
After an early breakfast you will be taken into the Namib-Naukluft National Park where you will visit the clay pan at Sossusvlei, as well as the stunningly beautiful Dooie Vlei. After you have spent enough time at Sossusvlei, you will return to Hoodia Desert Lodge where you will overnight.
Day 20 • Departure
Today you will be transferred to the local airport in time to board your flight to Windhoek. Upon arrival in Windhoek airport, you will board your flight to Johannesburg. Upon arrival in Johannesburg airport, you will board your flight back home.
