in Zambia’s Pristine Wilderness 13 DAYS
You are here: Home / Africa / Zambia / Zambia Wildlife Extravaganza

Zambia Wildlife Extravaganza

OVERVIEW

Wildlife enthusiasts are only now starting to realize the incredible potential Zambia has to become one of Africa’s foremost wildlife destinations. With more water than almost any other country in Africa, Zambia boasts mighty rivers, five huge lakes and 17 waterfalls, including Victoria Falls, one of the seven wonders of the natural world. All that water sustains myriad wildlife in a variety of ecosystems, much of it not used to humans. As a result, wildlife encounters in Zambia tend to be wilder and more authentic than in the rest of Africa. In the space of just thirteen days, you will see the very best of it.

DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1 • Arrival in Zambia
Upon arrival at Lusaka Airport, you will be met by our representative who will transfer you to the Taj Pamodzi Hotel .
Day 2 • Fly to the Lower Zambezi Valley
Today you will be transferred to Lusaka airport in time for the 35-minute flight to the local airstrip. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to Chiawa Camp, located on the banks of the Zambezi River. Overnight at Chiawa Camp .
Days 3 and 4 • Explore the Lower Zambezi Valley
The Lower Zambezi National Park, by virtue of the Zambezi River and its dramatic escarpment, is one of Africa’s most scenic wildernesses, home to an impressive quantity and variety of wildlife that can be viewed not only on the more usual land-based Lower Zambezi activities, but also on a variety of water-based activities, and in the camps themselves. Guided walks are a great way to get a “back stage pass” look at the wildlife and how the ecology of the Lower Zambezi works. Overnight on both nights at Chiawa Camp .
Day 5 • Fly to Victoria Falls
You will be transferred to the local airstrip after breakfast in time for your flight to Livingstone. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to Toka Leya Camp. Overnight at Toka Leya .
Day 6 • At Toka Leya
You will have an entire day to go on optional river cruises, game drives, fishing trips and of course, tours of the magnificent falls themselves. Overnight again at Toka Leya .
Day 7 • Transfer to Shumba
Today you will be transferred by road to Livingstone Airport, and transferred via light aircraft to the Busanga airstrip. Upon arrival at Busanga airstrip you will be met and transferred the short distance by a helicopter to Shumba Camp. Overnight at Shumba Camp .
Days 8 and 9 • In Shumba
You will have two full days to explore the environs of Shumba camp and the northern Kafue National Park. Shumba is perfectly situated to take advantage of the plains game and predator concentrations of the Busanga Plains, being situated as it is close to permanent water and having easy access to a mix of seasonal and permanent floodplains. Shumba is named after a favourite species in the area – lions, with prides sometimes reaching up to 20 strong! Overnight on both nights at Shumba Camp .
Day 10 • Transfer from Shumba to Kalamu
Today you will be transferred by helicopter to Busanga airstrip where you will be assisted onto your light aircraft to Mfuwe airstrip. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to Chindeni Camp where you will stay for the next three nights.
Days 11 and 12 • In the South Luangwa National Park
You will have two full days to explore the South Luangwa National Park with Chindeni Camp as your base. The Luangwa River has an immensely high concentration of wildlife and its rich vegetation. There are herds of elephant and buffalo, as well as dominant antelope species such as impala and puku. Other antelope include common waterbuck, bushbuck, eland, kudu, grysbok, oribi, reedbuck, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, sable and roan. Species such as Thornicroft’s giraffe and Cookson’s wildebeest occur nowhere else in the world and the area’s leopard viewing is legendary. The main predators are lion, leopard, spotted hyaena and wild dogs. Overnight on both nights at Chindeni Camp .
Day 13 • Departure
At a time to be advised by the camp management, you will be transferred from Chindeni Camp to the Mfuwe airstrip from where you will fly on to Lusaka Airport. Here you will transfer yourselves across to your flight to Johannesburg.
